Eight Departments
of the college are recognized centres for doctoral
research.26 Research Supervisors guide the work
at these centres. 11 of the supervisors are
permanent teachers in the different departments.
The other fifteen include former faculty members
and experts from other institutions. A substantial
percentage [29%] of the current faculty holds
doctoral degrees and 30% have gained intermediate
level degrees [MPhil]. Fifteen percent of the
permanent faculty are recognized Research Supervisors
of the M.G. University. 31 of the teachers are
actively engaged in doctoral or postdoctoral
research, either in the college or at centres
housed in Universities. The research areas together
present a cross-section of the problems that
preoccupy the contemporary world. The Zoology
Department has sought an international grant
for a study on “Gene Expression during Infection
and Stress”. Problems related to Gender are
also studied by the Departments of Psychology
, Malayalam and English. During the last five
years 18 PhDs have been awarded to research
fellows from the different departments of the
college.
